Ramdin led an unheralded West Indies team to the Under-19 World Cup final in Bangladesh in 2004 which they lost to Pakistan at the Bangabandhu National Stadium.
Already on a serious decline, the success of his team in junior World Cup had augured a bright future for West Indies team, though they could not achieve anything out of it eventually.
Ramdin, however, was benefitted personally, winning his first call-up in the senior team shortly to begin a career that took him to rank of national vice-captain at one stage.
He was seen as a natural successor to Chris Gayle, but just when the time came for him to take up the job, the Trinidad and Tobago man lost his form and was thrown out of the team.
He returned to the team now after almost one year in wilderness and is now looking to start his career afresh from where he left off.
‘There is a big difference [since I came here last time],’ Ramdin told reporters on Thursday. ‘The condition has changed and also the situation. That was at the Under-19 level and now I am in the senior team.
‘There is a pressure that I have to go out and perform but at the same time it’s an opportunity for us.
‘I was not getting runs. So I went back to the domestic league and performed. I got some runs and work on specific areas,’ said Ramdin, who joined the team after completing his assignment with T & T in the Champions League Twenty20 tournament in India. Ramdin hoped his experience in India would help his team.
‘It’s [condition] not as like the Caribbeans back home. We are learning to adapt to the condition. You know Bangladesh have lot of spinners. We want to look at some of them and understand how to perform,’ he said.
