| Tamim Iqbal: When most of the members of the Bangladesh team had been resting in their hotel rooms opener Tamim Iqbal had a two-hour long batting session on Friday morning ahead of today’s second one-dayer against West Indies. Tamim scored 21 from 38 balls that included only two fours in their 40-run defeat on Thursday chasing a mammoth 298-4. His approach was very opposite to the nature of his batting as he is widely known for giving an explosive start to the Bangladesh innings. West Indies pace bowlers exploited the new ICC rule of using two new balls from each end to the maximum as they restricted Tamim from playing his array of strokes by bowling in three-quarter length or short of length delivery. Tamim along with Shuvagata Hom, Shahriar Nafees, Sohrawardi Shuvo and Nazmul Hossain took the opportunity of having an optional training session with all the four coaches present at the Mirpur indoor stadium. But it was Tamim with whom head coach Stuart Law spent the entire time giving him tips on how to play on the back foot as it is expected the West Indies pacemen Kemar Roach, Andre Russell and Ravi Rampaul will try to hurl short-pitch balls to unsettle him. In the entire session Tamim mainly played the back-foot drive, square cut and pull shots so that he can make the full use of the short-pitch or three-quarter deliveries, an area where all the Bangladeshi batsmen are very vulnerable | |
